Mahesh plays a character with a chequered past, and a turbulent childhood. Notwithstanding psychological problems that he is suffering from, young Mahesh goes on to become a rockstar. But in spite of his fame, his past refuses to leave him alone. Incidents that happened in his childhood, and the repercussions of the same keeps coming back to haunt his present and his future.
What is that incident? What is the cause of Mahesh's psychological problem? Will he ever get past these issues? The answers to these questions make the movie.
'1 Nenokkadine' has been in the news for close to a year now, and as the first Telugu movie of 2014, it has definitely set the bar very high for its predecessors. The first half of the movie can be a little confusing, and the patience of the viewer, at times, can be tested. But if you can sit through the first half, you will be suitably rewarded with a crispier second half and a very interesting climax.
Movie is technically very sound, and the Cinematography by Ratna Velu is the movie's main asset. Music of the film is already a super hit, and Devi Prasad's background score suitably complements the narration. One word for the action sequences choreographed by Peter Heins; amazing.
All said and done, the movie clearly belongs to Mahesh Babu. If Businessman and Dookudu gave us, Mahesh the entertainer, '1 Nenokkadine' reveals to us Mahesh, the actor. His performance and screen presence is gripping, but it is his dialogue delivery that takes the cake. The actor is convincing both as the vulnerable rockstar trying to grapple with his psychological problems, and as the fearsome man battling the demons of his past.
Kriti Sanon as the journalist and Mahesh's love interest lights up the screen and delivers an impressive debut performance. A special mention for Mahesh's son Gautham who marks his debut with this movie. As the young Mahesh, the seven year old, packs a punch with his mature performance. sakshi
